This weekend we started our holiday prep. I realized that my partner and I spend way too much on holiday items for each other. But I won’t lie, I am all about opening and receiving presents on Christmas morning. Especially with Jake because he’s really good at finding things that I will absolutely love (hello Tank Girl candle). Then it hit me - I absolutely love thrifting. I asked him if he would enjoy having a smaller limit and be limited to shopping at Goodwill and similar stores. He was in, it took no convincing like I usually have to. We had an amazing day at the farmer’s market then stopped at a Goodwill on the way home. I combed the store and found some amazing gifts for him and came in at $15 less than the intended spending limit. Ok, later I was at another store and found a few stocking stuffers, so I hit the limit. I’m not sure where he is at, but I’m also not paying attention because gifts are supposed to be a surprise. Yes, I was that kid who tried to find all my gifts before Christmas morning. Why am I starting this? For one, I wanted to make the holidays less stressful on our budget but still have some fun surprising each other. We both love thrifting too, so I figured why not do our shopping there. I also wanted to ease up on how much I feel the need to show my love by the amount I spend, I wanted to be more intentional. There were a few things I found for him that I can’t buy new (and I won’t write about it until after Christmas Jake, in case you’re snooping). It was honestly also a lot more fun for me to dig around and go on a sort of treasure hunt instead of simply searching and clicking on some Amazon items. Bonus, I was finished in a day! The holidays don’t have to be a drain on you or your bank account. Get creative and think of new ways to show people you care. Or honestly, you don’t even need to buy anything! I’m working on making some gifts this year too. Start a tradition that feels good to you, that lights you up inside and that brings you and your loved ones joy.
